Nicole Watson
Nicole Watson is a member of the Birri Gubba people of Central Queensland and grew up in Brisbane.
Nicole has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and a Master of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology. Nicole began her career as a law clerk in the Queensland Attorney-General’s Department. She completed her articles of clerkship at Legal Aid Queensland, where she worked in the family law section.
Nicole has been employed as a case manager at the National Native Title Tribunal and has also worked as a policy officer for the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency. Nicole is currently employed as a Senior Research Fellow at the Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning, University of Technology Sydney, where she specialises in Indigenous law and policy.
Nicole’s first novel, The Boundary, was awarded the David Unaipon Award in 2009 for the best manuscript by an unpublished indigenous writer in the annual Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards. The Boundary was published in May 2011.
