Peter Waters (Chair)


​Foundation Board Member

Peter Waters has been a partner at Gilbert + Tobin for over 15 years.  Peter specialises in telecommunications and competition law.  Peter has a BA (Asian Studies) and LLB from the Australian National University and an LLM from Harvard University. 

After university, Peter spent two years as Justice Elizabeth Evatt's associate, when was Chief Judge of the Family Court. He then worked at the Australian Law Reform Commission working on the family law and bankruptcy references.

Subsequently, he worked as a clinical legal education lecturer at the Kingsford Legal Centre in Sydney before travelling to the US to study and work.  After Harvard, he worked with a US law firm in Washington, DC on East-West joint ventures in the days of the Soviet Union.

Peter's long association with the Roberta Sykes Foundation began, when as a junior lawyer working with Danny Gilbert, he was assigned the drafting of BWAEF's establishment deed. Peter has continued to assist the Foundation over the years with legal and tax advice. ​
